Creating Better Schools
“We are creating before building”
Our goal as creators of better schools is to delve into the fundamentals of pedagogy and invent educational systems that are more efficient in each community. In this journey of remodelling school curriculums, we based our educational projects on the work of important philosophers and researchers, highly recognised in Scandinavian countries. The principles of education in the developing world must take into consideration the limitations student have due to social, economical and environmental issues. Creating a better school, therefore, means that we change the way students acquire and construct their knowledge by using their own abilities and limitations to solve problems they’re faced with in their own communities. It is an active learning process, intimidated by the presence of local leaders and teachers. It is the model of a School without walls. Only after this process, we can ensure the success of physically “building” new structures for the schools.
Here is a practical example of how sports are integrated into the school curriculum despite a non-existent infra-structure for sport
Athletics Carnival
In 2011 the school of Padre Rodolpho, in the small town of Canaan-CE, Brazil remodelled its curriculum and the outcome has been astounding.
Mangrove Clean-up
With the help of students from Biology and Science classes, the school delivered an incredible conservation project to the local estuary. A total of 25 thousand new seedling of mangrove was planted and continues to be monitored by the students. We were able to cover an approximate area of 5 hectares of the mangrove. And the best thing about all this? Students were assessed based on their participation and willingness to protect their own habitats! This is how school can reshape a community!
Sport
Yes… there is a lot missing in this picture to make it a professional Olympic competition. Nonetheless, our students invited parents and the community to watch a great initiative of the school - taking students to learn new sports and defeat all odds! We really hope that in coming years our project will be able to provide more sporting material for our athletes!
